Vacation is over.

Well we have returned from the Happiest Place on Earth and I truly believe it is.   We arrived at the airport on Thursday December 15th for a 5:45 flight.  The boys knew where we were going but didn't know we were going to have guests.  As we are walking Evan looks over and says 'Hey there's papaw'.  We kept walking and he said it again.  I said lets go find out what they are doing here.  He went up to them and asked what they were doing and they said going to Florida.  'We are too'.  Where are you going?  To Orlando, where are you going?  'Us to.'  He figured out that they were going with us.  Then we kept walking and at a table in was Tara, John and Jackson and Hayden saw them.  Same conversation.  It was then 'Is anyone else going?'  No boys, 9 people is enough in one 2 bedroom condo!  Upon arriving everyone was excited and ready to start vacation.  Tara, John and Jackson stayed until Wednesday night and we stayed until Friday December 23rd.

A great time was had by everyone.  Miles and miles of walking, a lot of laughing, some arguing between the boys (it got worse after Jackson left, he must have been their buffer).  Lots of food and more walking.  Papaw Terry got sick while we were down there with a sinus and ear infection but started some antibiotics and was good to go after being down for a day.

We visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Universal Islands of Adventure.  The boys each got a wand and we tried butter beer.

I didn't care for it, it tasted like I was drinking a thick cream soda, or syrup.  Hayden downed his, Chris downed his, Evan didn't finish his though.  Got the cups to bring home so we can have butter beer at home, aka root beer in the Mickel house.

The boys got along great (most of the time) and I think they enjoyed spending an entire week together since it doesn't happen to often.  We had the occasional, don't touch me or he did this, but nothing that we couldn't handle.

After a great 9 days we had to head home, but we were all ready.  Christmas was in 2 days and we couldn't miss Santa Claus coming to town. Here are some additional random pictures that I wanted to ensure were included!

Oh Poop.

We returned from a FABULOUS trip to the Orlando area.  Universal one day and Disney for 4 days, an entire pool day, downtown disney for some shopping, many great meals, I could go on and on.  After a long morning in one of the theme parks we (Tara, John, Jackson, JoJo, Papaw, Evan, Hayden, myself and Chris) all decided to head down to the pool since the temps were 80 and sunny.  Tara and Jackson were in the pool for probably an hour when Tara swam to the side and asked me 'what do I do if I think I found poop in the pool?'  You have to tell the lifeguard.  This was after both her and Jackson got their goggles on to see what was at the bottom of the pool and Jackson wanted to touch it, maybe it is chocolate he said when they came up for air!  When she told the lifeguard the pool was cleared and the specimen was removed (yes it was poop, ugh).  And everyone had to stay out of the pool while they tested it etc.  30 minutes later everyone was allowed back in, Tara decided she was done swimming.

My view of the experience.....

#1 Popcorn Seller.

Evan had his cub scout pack meeting last evening and he was the #1 popcorn seller of the entire group.  This is thanks to dad buying A LOT of popcorn for his clients!  For his efforts he won a $50 giftcard from the pack and a $55 giftcard for meeting a certain sales goal.  He was so excited he could hardly see straight.  He wanted to leave the meeting and go straight to Walmart to purchase an iPod touch.  He has been saving for over a year to get the iPod touch and he needed $50 to reach his goal.  I told him to calm down a bit and lets see what Christmas brings....

Hello Santa Claus.

Another fun Christmas party with the Valeo group on Friday.  I only get so see a lot of them once or twice a year (depends on if they have a summer event for the twice a year) so it is always nice to catch up with everyone.

Our annual neighborhood christmas party was last evening at Greek Tony's Pizza in Carmel.  There is pizza, salad and the most awesome breadsticks dripping in butter and garlic - not fattening at all.  There were about 20 families there which is always so much fun since we haven't seen many of them since the pool closed!  Santa makes a visit and each child sits on his lap and gets a gift.  Santa asked Hayden what he wanted for Christmas and it was answered with 'I don't know, I forget'.  Typical.  Evan wants an iPod Touch, which I would have never guessed,  not.  His list that he wrote up was iPod Touch circled, underlined, starred and anything else he could do to make it stand out.

After the party Evan and I went to the Live Nativity at St. Luke's.  It was great with the live animals and I know who played Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus was their 'real' baby.  Here is Evan nervously standing by a camel, he thinks it is going to spit on him.

Crystals are interesting.

I really just wanted to get this picture out there.  Hayden is looking at the crystals that they (Hayden, Evan and Morgan) grew.  We were out to eat with crystals all over the table.

Blue II

Who can't love this ugly mug?  I surprised the boys with Blue II as their mystery reader.  The mystery reader gives hints to their identity and then the big reveal is on Friday when they show up.  Here were the hints.  1.  Scared of thunderstorms.  2.  Named after a lawyer from the 1800's (Ovid Butler)  3. Favorite color is Blue  4.  Has made numerous TV appearances  5.  Works at a school but is not a teacher.

The kids were all surprised to see the 'real live mascot' from Butler.  There were also a group of High School kids there to read to the younger kids that got all excited when they saw him.  We had kids coming out of the classrooms to see what was snorting down the hall and then you would have the teacher come out and tell them to get back into the room.  I am so happy that I can do things like this for the boys, hopefully they will always remember when Butler Blue II came to visit their school.

Memories with warm milk.

Evan came downstairs this evening and said he was thirsty. I told him he could have some water and her said 'oh I wanted warm milk like when I was little'. Well how can I say no to that? So Evan made himself some warm milk and came into the living room with me, sat down and said, 'so what do you want to talk about?'. He then asked me to tell him something about Deacon and Baron (our miniature schnauzers that we had from 1997 to 2009). I told him that we brought Deacon home about this time of year because we put a big bow on him. He then wanted to know about himself and I said he used to chew on his crib and crawl thru the doggie door. He said he remembered this.  I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up and he said 'president or maybe the Govenor'.   I then said I was going to write about our conversation on the blog and he wants his own blog. Maybe we will work on that this weekend so I can get his thoughts down forever! One thing he wanted included in this entry was that he is just finishing up a book called City of Embers, he wants me to read it so I think I will.

Star gazing.

On Saturday night it was clear and you could see the stars.  Evan had just gotten home from an evening with his friend Christopher and he asked me if we could go out and star gaze.  This is something that I had done with him several times when he was smaller.  We get a blanket and lay it on the drive way and just lay down and look up at the stars.  Our neighbors must think we need to be put in a looney bin, but it is perfect.  Just 5 minutes of absolute silence holding Evan's hand and pointing to what we see.  I hope he always wants to look at the stars with me.

Colts Game, not fun.

We split season tickets with one of Chris's co-workers and we selected a game for December and we aren't even going to be here, poor planning on our part.  So we switched our December tickets with their friends for the Carolina game on Sunday after Thanksgiving.  I thought it would be fun for all 4 of us to go.  Not so much.  Evan begged to stay home and when Hayden heard this nonsense he decided he didn't want to go either.  So both boys have bad attitudes about going.  They did perk up when we told them we were going to lunch at Weber Grill, I think they thought this may make the trip worth it.  But lunch was long forgotten as Evan is sitting in his seat staring at the roof and I ask him 'Are you having fun?'  His response 'No, not at all.'  The ladies behind us started laughing.  At half-time the game was tied at 10-10 and we thought there might be hope since the Colts were 0-11 coming into the game.  We left at half time and the Colts lost, 0-12 so far.  Evan being the wise football know it all said 'The colts aren't going to be in the Super Bowl this year'.  Um no they are not which is a shame considering that the super bowl is in Indianapolis.

Morgan.

Chris and I have decided that we wanted the boys to come home after school instead of going to after school care.  I was lucky enough to find a High School Senior who is done with school in time to meet the boys at our house as they get off the bus, her name is Morgan.  Call her a nanny, call her a sitter, but I call her fabulous.  She makes sure the boys get their homework done and then she plays games and does activities with them.  They have made crystals that are growing and today was a lesson in making brownies.  She takes the boys to golf practice and will pick them up from school when they have Math Pentathlon.  She stays until one of us gets home in the evening and she loves on Sadie!  This has been a great change to our daily routine and the boys are enjoying having her around too!  The plan is for her to be around until she leaves for college in August.  We are hoping she could recommend someone to us to replace her for next school year!

Good entertainment at the expense of my parents.

So Mollie has been with my parents for just over a week and it has been quite an adventure.  Here are the posts that my mom has made to her Facebook account regarding their experience.

As you can see from my new profile picture, Mollie has arrived home! Already peed and pooped on kitchen rug but what did we expect, she was pad trained at the breeders. We are potty training again folks, can you believe it? Is she not the cutest thing?

No sleep last night due to Mollie crying! She does not like her crate! We moved it closer to our bedroom so she could hear noise thinking this might work but nope. We will see what tonight brings. We thought we had the pee thing down pat since she has peed outside every time we take her out but while I was on computer, she came in and peed on carpet. Poop is another thing she does on rugs. Oh well, this is just day 3 and we knew it would take time. Lord, give me patience, right now!

Mollie did better last night. We took board out and gave her more room. We put treats in and she walked in but when I shut the door, the crying started. It did not last too long and she went to sleep. Started to cry again about 1:30 so got up and took her out and yep, she peed. Put her back in crate w/treat and some crying but calmed down shortly. She was up again about 5:15 so here we are, up for... the day. Still pooping on rug but Terry is starting to collect them and will deposit in yard so she can smell them and maybe get the idea. Also put ticking clock outside of crate so not sure which worked, more room or ticking clock. More on Miss Mollie or shithead as Terry is now calling her, tomorrow.........

We are thinking of a trip to Costco. Take the dog? Don't take the dog? Terry thinks she will cry if we leave her in car alone (and either pee or poop) and we could not do lunch. Do we leave her in the crate AGAIN? Decisions, decisions, and more decisions...........
(they took the dog and she slept in the car).

Hallelujah! Mollie had pooped in the yard! Not once, not twice but as of this morning, three times!!!! She also had her first encounter with one of the cats, Mr. Snowflake. Snowflake was rubbing her face and she kept jumping back then running forward like an attack dog. No claws were shown by the cat, just curiosity on his part. We also covered her crate with a towel last night, put the clock under and she slept all through the night! I even got up and she did not cry or bark. I think we are making wonderful progress. Today in the crate again while we shop, but hey, people work and leave their dogs on a daily basis so she should do fine.

Not such a good night last night! Mollie got up twice (I took her out) then she woke us up at 5:00am and Terry took over and let me sleep. She pooped and peed outside, he fed her and the cats and was having his coffee when I wondered into the kitchen. Terry's eyes were droopy and no smiles so on the couch he went w/Mollie on his feet. He slept for about and 1 1/2 hr and finally got a smile from him. He is calling her a blood sucker now due to a number of bites on hands, arms and earlobes. We keep giving her something to chew on, but she likes us best!

Forgot mention that we have accused the girls of trying to kill us off. On a walk on a leash w/Mollie yesterday, she started to run and I had to jog to keep up. Of course I got winded (I don't do anything close to jogging) and had to turn her over to Terry. Then later in the day, I let her out and Snowflake came up to her and they were rubbing and playing but Snowflake had enough and ran away. Well, Mollie ran right after her through the pine trees, in the pasture and finally out by the road with me on Mollie's tail trying to catch her before she went into the street. I'm telling you the truth, the girls are trying to kill us!

Morning started out @ 4:00am with Mollie crying to get out. Took her outside and of course, it's raining. All hunched over in my jammies getting my back all wet. She peed and back into the crate she went. Cried just a little as I crawled back into bed and tried to snuggle to get warm. Terry said 'what the heck, why are you wet?' She woke again at 6:00am and Terry took her out grumping all the way.... Jackson spent the night and did not wake up once. We had breakfast, cleaned up kitchen and I was off to take a bath. Got myself together and asked the last time the dog went out, no one knew so I started to take her out and found out no one had been paying attention, she pooped in living room and I stepped in it. Jumped outside, took off my shoes and stood in my clean white socks in the yard while Mollie did her thing. Stripped off socks, put them in washer, cleaned up tennis shoes, cleaned carpet and by this time, I felt I needed to take another bath!

11/28
Monday - up @ 4am to let Mollie out. Up @ 5am to get ready for hospital volunteering. Pulled bandage off arm where Mollie got her tooth caught in my flesh and ripped a gash in my forearm. It was not her fault, I was playing with her and her mad monkey and did not get my arm away in time. This morning it was 5am to let her out and then I shut the bedroom door and let her roam for an hour. The house is still standing! Out with her 3 different times and no poop. We all hate the rain, who wants to squat with your butt on cold wet grass? No one so she poops on the rug when we get in. BTW, we did look at fencing yesterday.........

The adventures of Miss Mollie (or should I say Gillespies). I learned a new trick last night, I caught the poop directly from the factory! She did pee outside but doggone it, it was cold, wet and snowy out there. Her butt was directly on top of the snow. I tried to clear, but clearing heavy wet snow with a broom from the grass is next to impossible. Just as soon as I brought her into the warm house, she started to squat. I picked her up and held my hand under her butt and there it was just waiting for me to catch. Outside she went again to no avail. Spring cannot come soon enough this year!

Had to do abdominal surgery on Mr. Turtle this morning, Miss Mollie tried to degut him. He is now in the healing process. Had a successful day yesterday on the potty training but back to the rug she goes this morning. Really, folks, this is, I think, worse than both the kids put together!
Mollie up at 1:30am, Terry was on duty and outside she went. Back in crate until 5:30am and I was on duty and outside she went (no really, she went both pee and poop). So far so good this morning! Yesterday, we took her to Butler and she was passed around by 6 or 7 different ladies who were ooowing and aaahing over her sweet face. Blue was busy so no meeting the big guy. I was checking FB and hear...d her chewing and looked to see what was being destroyed now. She was chewing on new WiFi cable under the desk. I told her no, don't chew cable and Terry started laughing, 'Like she knows what you are talking about!', but hey I can try to communicate with the critter, can't I? Mr. Turtle was given in hopes she would be distracted and it worked! (for 30 seconds)...............

Tara took Mollie to see her master for when we head to Florida. Mollie had a great time running, playing and getting to know the family. Tara brought her home and assured us she was worn out and would sleep through the night. WRONG! She was up at 4 and peed, back in crate and 4:30 after crying all this time, back out to poop. Back in the crate to more crying but finally calmed down to awaken at 6 so here we are again up for the day. Waiting on the news and paper, they never come on time on Sunday......
12/7/11
Up at three to pee for the pup. Cried until 3:30 and back out to poop. Cried until 4 and she and the crate got moved to the back of the house! She has not gone in the house for a couple of days but boy, the nights are tough. She goes to Vet today and gets her 2nd set of shots. She had lots of company last night with all the Gillespies (minus the Mickel family) here for dinner. She did not bite, scratch or cause anyone to fall so it was a good night for Mollie!
12/8/11
Miss Mollie went to Vet yesterday, got butt poked, heart checked, shots in both shoulders and spray up her nose. She was a champ through it all! Got her a sweater on the advice of Vet, she has no fat to keep her warm. I never thought I would dress a dog! I know I had a cement goose I would dress up on holidays but hey, I was younger and not quite as smart as I am now (righhhhhht). We woke her up at 3am to go out and then had to wake her up at 6 for the day. We put Terry's stinky socks in with her and I think they knocked her out..........

12/9/11
We went to Amazon to wrap presents yesterday and we were gone about 7 hours between wrapping and lunch. We left Mollie in utility room with gate to keep her contained. Pee pad was down and crate was there for a nap. She did not use pee pad so maybe Jacque is right about holding it. The Vet did tell us at this age she could only hold about 5 hours but who knows. Terry has to go and get more bandaid...s today for his hands. He plays with her and those teeth get him every time. I told him the asprin he takes is making him bleed more but the Vet did say she was already losing her baby teeth so he should be fine in a month or so. We are winning the war on pee and poop, she goes outside 99% of the time now. We are trying to get her to ring bells taped to the front door for our convenience!

12/10/11
‎'Ode to Mary Jo's House Cleaning Abilities' Mollie is now chasing dust particiles that are floating in a patch of sunlight coming from sunroom into the kitchen. She is biting the air and woofing.............

Zebra Cake

The boys and I made a Zebra Cake for Thanksgiving.  All you do is make to cake mixes that are different colors and then 1/3 of a cup at a time alternate colors into a cake pan on top of each other.  Here is our work.....

Here comes the surprise.

We are getting ready to put our Christmas tree up and in it I will be placing two pair of Harry Potter glasses and handing this to Evan to read aloud.  Do you think he will figure it out?

If you 'look' you may 'see'
an early Christmas gift in the tree.

There are two 'pair'
we always have to be fair,

can't wait for you to 'see'
what an awesome gift it may be.

Once you find your gift, your 'eyes'
will be opened to a WORLD of fun.

Now fly to the tree
just to 'see'
if the tree will tell
or will you need to place a spell?

Let's see if he can figure out we are going to Universal Studios and Disney World!

It took some prompting but they finally figured it out.  Evan said he is super excited, Hayden said he isn't excited at all.

Hayden's weird sleeping habit.

Every night we put Hayden to bed he wants us to read him a book, which isn't weird.  But then wants us to give him a scratch back.  Yes I have that right a scratch back.  Not a back scratch because that is common sense, but a scratch back.  Morgan our nanny (more to come on her later) was with them the other night and she put Hayden to bed.  Next thing she knows he is calling down the stairs to her and asking for a scratch back.  'My mommy or daddy give me a scratch back every night.'  She figured it out and off to sleep he went, only after you cover his head with his pillows and then pull the sheet up over them...... weird.

Christmas came early.

Christmas came early for my parentals.  After going back and forth for over a year on if they were going to get a dog, they got a dog for Christmas (thanks to my sister and I).  Meet Mollie.  She is an 8 week old Cavapoo (same as our Sadie girl).  They have had her for 2 full days now and are quite taken with her already.  She thinks that everything is her toy and she will play for about 15 minutes then sleep for an hour.  My mom jokes that she is back to potty training.... have fun with that.

Here is an update that I just received today 11/22 from JoJo.  Mollie has been with them for 3 days now.

Mollie cried all night last night and ear plugs did not help. We put crate in by wood stove so she would be closer to us per info on web.  She has the peeing thing down but poop is still an issue. Of course, it has been raining every day since she came home so that makes it more difficult. She does not like the wet leaves so Terry is going to mow when and if it gets dry so her little butt does not have to touch those nasty leaves.  The cats still run when she comes near which is a riot. All will be well in due time!

Evan is amazed....

Decided to jump on computer to see if I could get some pictures loaded and Evan came down and said 'We have a website?' I said yes and his jaw dropped open.  He immediately said he wants to add content to our blog.  Ok how about now?  Not now, but this weekend as he is to busy playing star wars the clone wars.  By the way, never shared Halloween pictures so here is the gangster and army guy (they really just wanted to carry weapons).  We also had a little princess butterfly....  We went trick or treating with Evan's best friend Christopher and he was a clone trooper and another friend Sam was an army guy.  We were very well protected as we patrolled the streets of Carmel.

Still no pictures

I haven't added any pictures yet because I never get on the computer at home.  Since I am on a computer all day the last thing I want is to sit in front of one at night.

Had lunch with Hayden today.  We had a 'feast'.  He has had a tremendous week at school this week (behavior wise) and he wanted me to join him for his thanksgiving feast.  I was more than happy to grant his request.  When I went to leave he asked me to stay longer :(  I told him I couldn't and he hugged me and said good bye.  He can be a real stinker, but he can also be the most loving little boy.

Chris is flying back from LA today and had a 2 1/2 hour delay in Vegas so instead of getting home at 4:30 he will be home at 8.  So much for my plans this evening of going with a bunch of friends to the 'Shopping Extravaganza' at the Monon Center. sigh.

Am I really a blogger?

Ok here we go.  Decided to join the plethora of people who blog.  Really though, this is just a way to keep memories for the boys.  I have kept a journal for years but my entries keep getting further and further apart.

One month from today we are headed on a jet plane to Disney, yeah!!  Boys still don't know so don't tell them.  We are going to tell them after Thanksgiving when we put our christmas tree up.  I have 2 pair of Harry Potter glasses that I am going to put on the tree and see if the boys can figure it out (yes I know Harry Potter is Universal and not Disney, we are going there too!!).  I'll TRY and post pictures!
